Like learning to ride a bicycle, effective reading instruction requires essential skills and a solid foundation to propel teachers and students along the literacy journey.
Students need teachers who know how to teach the foundational skills of reading. Designed to be the cornerstone of a multiyear, systemic literacy improvement initiative, educators in Newcastle, Wyoming are using LETRS® (Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling) as their comprehensive professional development course for instructors of language and literacy. Hear their story and learn why LETRS is the only literacy professional development course backed by more than 30 years of evidence-based scientific research.
Structured Literacy addresses all of the essential components of reading, plus oral language and writing and is the approach endorsed by the International Dyslexia Association’s Board of Directors. These solutions from Voyager Sopris Learning align with the principles outlined within a Structured Literacy approach.

Voyager Passport can be used with any core reading curriculum you're currently using, making it the only reading intervention program you'll need this school year.
Acadience Reading provides one of the best methods of identifying students who are at risk for early reading difficulties, including dyslexia, monitoring those students to determine whether they remain at risk, and identifying students who are not making adequate progress and should be referred for further assessment.
When Niles City Schools (NCS) educators saw K–3 literacy scores for the 2015–2016 school year graded as “D” on the State of Ohio report card, district leaders considered it a catalyst for change.
In a district-wide effort to boost teachers’ foundational reading instructional skills, administrators at Rapides Parish launched a concerted effort to find a solution.
When they write and spell, students show us what they know and believe about spoken and written language. If we, as educators, look with an informed eye, we can readily see what needs to be taught and what that student needs to learn. Join us for this enlightening presentation during which Dr. Louisa Moats will share her unique insight and expertise as we take a close look at writing samples and explore what they tell us about students’ instructional needs.
